tL’s phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1616 - Rockledge Mansion, located on 440 Mill Street in Occoquan is another national & historic landmark in Virginia. The grand stone Georgian mansion was built by local industrailist John Ballandine in 1758 with help from his master builder William Buckland. The 252 year old colonial venue is surrounded by beautiful landscaping and the area is very quiet and private, on two acres in the center of town. The ghost here is said to be that of a Confederate Soldier.

tL’s phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1615 - Mt. Vernon, is the most noted colonial estate in America and the plantation home of George Washington, the dominant military and political leader of the new United States of America from 1775 to 1797, commander in chief of the Continental Army, 1775–1783, and presided over the writing of the Constitution in 1787 and the first President of the United States. Today, the ‘Bowling Green’ creates a foreground for Mt. Vernon, evoking the naturalistic style of American landscapes appreciated by George Washington.

Today, this path is narrower, crowded by English boxwoods that are over 250 years old and ends in an overlook extending out from the steep edge of the gardens to the grand Potomac River.

TEDD LiGGETT’s phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1604 \ yOSEMiTE vALLEY

tL’s phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1604 - Here is the classic view of Yosemite Valley from Tunnel View; from which you can see El Capitan, Half Dome, Sentinel Dome, (cloudless) Cloud’s Rest, Cathedral Rocks, and (the dry during the season in which this photograph was taken) Bridalveil Falls. From this vantage point Yosemite Valley appears to be a solid mass of trees, but there are meadows running much of the valley's length and the Merced River is down there somewhere. If you don’t get your picture taken here at Tunnel View, most of your friends won’t believe you’ve “actually” been to Yosemite National Park.
