Getting him to place his arms in this position was a challenge in view of the fact as when I took his hand suggesting this pose, he abruptly balked, then slowly relented, posed seriously & I was able to walk away with this quick photograph.

It was here that a Jayhawker group of Forty-Niners, gold seekers from the middle west, entered Death Valley in 1849, seeking a short route to the gold mines of central California, burned their wagons, dried the meat of some oxen and with the surviving animals struggled westward on foot.
