Spanning over the Colorado River, joining two states, Nevada and Arizona, the design blends steel and concrete composites which’ll make this the longest span (1,060 feet) bridge (1,900 feet) in the U.S.

TEDD LiGGETT’s phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1397 \ LAND sPAN

tL's phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY - Land Span. The O'Callaghan-Tillman Memorial Bridge (also known as the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge) cost 420 million$’s to construct. Work began in 1993 by both states, Arizona and Nevada. Combined with sightseeing & pedestrian traffic over the Hoover Dam, routed traffic along Hwy 93/60 (to & from Las Vegas) often comes to a standstill. The O'Callaghan-Tillman bridge’s location was determined to be the best route for the bypass. Named for Mike O'Callaghan (a decorated Korean War veteran & governor of Nevada from 1971 to 1979) and Pat Tillman (an Arizona State University & Arizona Cardinals football player who gave up his multi million-dollar career in the National Football League to enlist in the U.S. Army, and was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan) this bridge will be the 2nd highest bridge in the United States at 860 to 890 feet (depending on the water released below to generate electricity). The highest bridge in the United States, The Royal Gorge Bridge, rests above the Arkansas River in Colorado at 955 feet. The third highest bridge in the U.S. is the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia, and shown, minted on the WVA State Quarter, reaches 876 feet in height.
