tL's phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1755 - The Big Four Bridge over the Ohio River linking Louisville Kentucky and Jeffersonville Indiana is an abandoned six-span railroad truss bridge named after the defunct Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railway (nicknamed the “Big Four Railroad”).

This historic bridge was built for railroad traffic in 1895. In 1969 the Big Four Bridge was closed and its six-story approaches removed earning this viaduct the moniker “The Bridge That Goes Nowhere”.

The governments of Kentucky and Indiana have pledged $22 million in funds for spiral ramps that’ll lead to pedestrian & bicycle links between the cities and is scheduled for ribbon cutting shortly after the Mayan Calendar flips in early 2013.
