Barry Goldwater, architectural heiress Marguerite Staude received a special use permit from the forest service and built this spiritual retreat on a spur of red rock dedicated to art in the 1956 for 300$K. In the sculptor's words ... “Though Catholic in faith, as a work of art the Chapel has a universal appeal. Its doors will ever be open to one and all, regardless of creed, that God may come to life in the souls of all men and be a living reality.”

Hired by the Fred Harvey Company, architect Mary Coulter built this rest area in 1930 on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Each stone was handpicked for size and appearance and the silhouette, from a distance, looks like a Anasazi lookout.

The name comes from Don Juan Ignacio Flores Mogollón the Spanish Governor of New Mexico from 1712-1715 and is home of the Mogollon Monster, most often reported to be Bigfoot.
