TEDD LiGGETT’s phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1365 \ dESERT qUEEN

tL's phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1365 - The Desert Queen Gold Mine has a colorful history (as portrayed in western Hollywood movies). Gold was discovered here in 1894 and ownership transfered to others by way of robbery, murder, bank foreclosures, sales and payments for back wages. From 1895 to 1961 the Desert Queen Mine was a productive area; the U.S. Bureau of Mines estimated a production of 3,845 ounces of gold. Surviving traces down below include remnants of a cabin, parts of mining machinery, cyanaide tanks and ore tailings. The National Park Service covered the shafts & tunnels for visitor safety. &yes! I hiked ‘down’ there & into it.
