tL's phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #2015 - The Gila River flows south from Buckeye Arizona then makes a wide turn towards Yuma toward its juncture with the Colorado River.

The Gillespie Dam is a concrete gravity dam located on the Gila River north of Gila Bend. The dam was constructed during the 1920s for irrigation purposes. The dam failed unexpectedly in 1993 because of unusually heavy rains during a projected 65 year flood.
