TEDD LiGGETT's phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #2077 - The Juan de Anza expedition arrived here at the confluence of the Colorado & Gila Rivers in 1775. The Spanish began the colonization of California in 1769 and Anza was establishing a land route to the Bay of San Francisco. During this exploratory trip Anza made friends with the Quechan Indians who controlled the rivers, near [what is now] Yuma Arizona.
