tL's phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1275 - In 1879 Carl Bilicke opened the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Tombstone, Arizona. His was the first to offer beds, rather than cots. In a few months the tent was replaced with a 2-story building with 50 beds, a ladies sitting room, restaurant, saloon, a merchandise counter AND Tombstone’s first piano. After a shoot-out and a murderous dispute caused by a marital scandal, Bilicke bolted the scene & left for California, parts unknown.
