tL's phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1881 - Allis-Chalmers first started manufacturing tractors in Milwaukee in the 1840s. The company's presence in Milwaukee became so large that its plants were used as landmarks and its ‘west’ plant lent its name to the city of West Allis, Wisconsin. The company began to struggle in the 1980s and sold out to Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG of Germany in 1985. Allis-Chalmers Energy Inc. is (now) a Houston Texas based oil company.
