TEDD LiGGETT’s phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1635 \ dEViL'S tOWER

tL’s phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1635 - Devils Tower is a volcanic neck located in northeastern Wyoming rising 1,267 feet (386 m) above the surrounding terrain; the summit is 5,112 feet (1,558 m) above sea level. In 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt declared the Devils Tower landmark as the first United States National Monument. About 1% of the Monument's 400,000 annual visitors climb Devils Tower. The name originated in 1875 during an expedition led by Col. Dodge when his interpreter misinterpreted the Indian’s given name to mean Bad God's Tower. Information signs in that area use the name Devils Tower, following the geographic naming standard whereby the apostrophe is eliminated.
