tL's phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #1951 - Naturalist John Bartram was the first person to leave a written account of the scenery at Blue Spring in central Florida. Bartram was appointed ‘Naturalist for Florida’ by the British Crown and in 1765 he set out to find the source of the St. Johns River. While exploring the upper reaches of this majestic stream he came upon a “surprising fountain”.
